The
Commonwealth Ports Authority (CPA) contracted EFC to perform the design
and Construction Management of the Parallel Taxiway A at the Saipan
International Airport. This project was under the close scrutiny
of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and required constant
coordination with the airlines to ensure no interference with aircraft
operations. The design included over 19,000 square yards of
asphalt pavement work for the taxiing of airplanes, replacement of five
existing guidance signs, placement of three new taxiway guidance signs,
over 6,000 linear feet of cable trench, as well as the installation of
11,430 linear feet of underground electrical cable. Because the
project was done under the strict requirements of the FAA, quality
control and proper coordination were critical to ensure a safe and
clean environment. Moreover, EFC reviewed all design mixes for
the asphalt pavement mixture to certify that the mix was properly
constructed and was meeting the strict design standards set forth by
FAA.
